In just 10 days, Barack will accept the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
It will be the biggest night of the campaign so far, but it will also be one the largest single nights of grassroots organizing, as supporters across the country gather at house parties to watch Barack's speech and prepare for the general election.
You can share the moment with millions of fellow supporters across the country. Sign up to attend a Convention Watch Party in your neighborhood on Thursday, August 28th:
This is your Monday night Open Thread . . .

Over the weekend, you may have noticed some changes to the Barack Obama website. Our production and design teams have upgraded certain elements of the site so that it's easier to find the information you're looking for.
Some of the changes you may have noticed:
• We added a thin, blue bar at the top of all pages of the site. If you don't already have a My.BarackObama.com (MyBO) account, the bar will prompt you to create one. MyBO members have access to online tools needed to effectively organize for Barack Obama and build this movement for change.
If you're already logged into the site, the bar will change to a full MyBO navigational menu, allowing you to access any of the main MyBO pages in only one click from any other page on the site.
• We've also made it possible for you to find both official and grassroots events in your neighborhood with only one click from any page on the website. If you're logged in, the top right section of the site will lead you directly to a map of events happening in your community.
• Finally, we've made some small adjustments to our homepage, like increasing the size of the main graphic and rotating photos of Barack up top, rather than always displaying the same one.
We hope you like the changes. As always we'd love to hear your feedback.

When Barack Obama declared his candidacy for president, Evelyn of Atlanta, Georgia, knew she wanted to do something to help.
Evelyn, 66, who is retired from the City of Atlanta, thought that helping to raise funds for the campaign sounded like an easy way to get involved and make a big difference. So she joined the Grassroots Finance Committee and set a personal goal of raising $1000.
I have to admit that I haven’t done much fundraising on other campaigns. I was really nervous and had to get the gumption up to ask people for money. So I started with my family and asked them to ask their friends to donate as well. And it was easy! I asked people to give whatever they could, and everyone was happy to help.
Evelyn says that many of the people who donated to her personal page went on and got their own friends to donate to her page as well. Evelyn’s efforts went far beyond her initial $1000 goal. She has now raised over $1700 from 27 individual donors.
Evelyn says:
Most people I asked were already planning to vote for Barack, but this is a way that they can help me and really make a difference.
She says she’s been very impressed with how appreciative the campaign is of her efforts. “The Grassroots Finance Committee sent a letter to me after I reached my goal. For everything I’ve given the campaign, the campaign gives back with their appreciation.”
Evelyn says that grassroots fundraising is a great way for people to join the campaign.
It’s so thrilling to be able to do something to help. I told all my friends – this campaign is going to be a little different. You have to do more than vote. You have to do another step: canvass, make phone calls, donate. And that’s going to help us all make a difference.
You can join Evelyn and supporters like her as a member of the Grassroots Finance Committee. We've set a challenging $1,000 goal for GFC members, but our team of fundraising experts will be available to give you personal advice and the support you need.

Add to myYahoo!Today, Barack held a round table discussion in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Forty-three women, all supporters and volunteers who had received invitations distributed through local field offices, attended the event.
Barack was introduced by Michelle Kavanaugh, a young, single mother living in Albuquerque who has faced pay discrimination. She is not alone. Women currently make just 77 cents for every dollar men make. African American women fare no better, making just 62 cents per dollar. Latinas do even worse, at 53 cents.
Barack has been fighting for pay equity throughout his political career. In Illinois, Barack helped pass a law to give 330,000 more women protection from paycheck discrimination.
Here is a selection of what Barack had to say at today’s event:
It was recently announced that Lilly Ledbetter, a former Goodyear Tire employee, will be speaking at the DNC in Denver next week. Lilly has been a very important advocate for pay equity for Women. Last May, she brought her case to the Supreme Court, where lawmakers have been making it very hard for women to challenge pay discrimination.
As president, Barack will continue to stand up for equal pay for women – not only by pushing the “Lilly Ledbetter Act” to be signed into law, but by putting in place policies that will help increase women’s participation, wages and benefits in the labor market.

Add to myYahoo!Last week Ed Prouty, a heating and cooling contractor from Atkinson, New Hampshire was the two millionth person to donate money to the campaign. It's a milestone that few believed was possible -- 2,000,000 individual supporters owning a piece of this campaign.
On Friday, Ed received a surprise phone call from Barack himself ...
When Barack asked how business was going, Ed said, "It's the worst we’ve ever seen in 25 years.”
Ed spoke to Barack about a number of other issues important to him and his community, including the foreclosure crisis, health care and the environment.
At the end of their call, Ed promised Barack, “I’ll be out there working with you.”
Thank you to everyone for the work you've done to build this movement. Keep up the momentum by making a donation today.

Add to myYahoo! This is so true (and so sad that the media has bought the bullsh*t meme fed to it directly by the McCain campaign):
One of the great secrets of the presidential campaign is that Obama?s greatest strength and McCain?s greatest weakness is the same thing: foreign policy judgment. It?s frustrating that the conventional wisdom (and public perceptions) has this almost exactly backwards.
When it became clear that the nominees would be McCain and Obama, many Republicans all around the country started calling one another to say, Who will we be for, what are we going to do in this election? And a very large number of us feel deeply that John McCain, good man that he is, will be a continuation of Bush, and we will have, particularly in the foreign-policy field, but also in terms of fiscal integrity, a Bush third term, and that is something that we are strongly opposed to. It?s difficult to walk away from your party?s nominee, but you have to put your country first.

Add to myYahoo! Here's the Obama campaign today calling out John McCain for attending a fundraiser today partially organized by Ralph Reed, a key ally of convicted felon Jack Abramoff (who is serving six years in prison on a criminal case out of Florida, where he pled guilty in January 2006 to charges of conspiracy, honest services fraud and tax evasion):
The old John McCain wouldn't have allowed one of Jack Abramoff's top cronies to raise money for him," said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor. "But this time around, it's clear that Senator McCain is willing to do whatever it takes to win-even if that means embracing President Bush's policies, his tactics, and now his disgraced fundraisers. The American people want a real change, not the same old Washington politics that Jack Abramoff and Ralph Reed perfected."
