Road Blog: Day in Pictures, Michigan

Barack Obama spent the day campaigning in Michigan, telling people about his plans to bring help to a faltering economy and listening to folks talk about the distress that has hit their everyday lives. Everyone is well aware of the economic challenges that are facing this country, but here in Michigan the pain has been felt longer and runs a little deeper.

And it's no wonder. As Barack pointed out today at his town hall in Farmington Hills, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney met with the leadership of the big three automakers exactly zero times during their tenure in the White House. This administration simply doesn't listen.

The 1500 Michiganders who crowded into the main gym of North Farmington High School (according to Fire Chief Marunicci) were ready to be heard. Question after question dealt with what people hope can be done to help them recapture the American dream.

Today's introducer, John Ashcroft (no relation), was a life-long Republican who recently lost his job in the auto industry. But after experiencing the results of the last eight years for his state and himself, John is ready for a change. He supports Barack Obama because he wants to know that someone is listening, that someone is prepared to act.

Road Blog: Joe Biden in Green Bay, WI

Joe Biden spoke to a crowd of 750 laborers, veterans, and local residents today at a town hall meeting at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay. There were numerous Packers jerseys dotting the room, and all the buzz was about the upcoming game tonight against the rival Minnesota Vikings.

They sure love their football in Wisconsin, but people didn't come to hear Joe talk football this morning. Folks were eager to hear what an Obama-Biden ticket would offer to the American people and the people of Wisconsin.

Watch what Joe had to say about Barack Obama's foreign policy experience and his judgment on Iraq:

Break

After the conventions and the recent revelations that McCain has decided to run his entire campaign on lies and deception, I need to take a break. I'll be back in a bit but need some time to recharge.

"No Maverick"

Today, in response to the McCain ad “Maverick,” the Obama campaign released a new 30-second TV ad, "No Maverick."

video details and more

Despite calling himself a "maverick," seven of John McCain's top campaign advisors are Washington lobbyists, and he's voted with George W. Bush 90% of the time. Sarah Palin probably touts how she was against the so-called "bridge to nowhere," despite the fact that she originally supported it.

If you are tired of the same cynical approach to politics, you can make a donation now

"No Maverick" will air in key battleground states across the country beginning today.

Road Blog: Barack in Flint, Michigan

You don't have to go far in Flint to find out what's going on. This country is struggling economically.

The numbers don't look good. Unemployment in America is hovering around six percent, eight percent if you live in Michigan and 12 percent if you live here in Flint.

Jon Terbrush is one of the unlucky. After devoting himself to American Axle for 12 years, he took a buyout when the corporation made the decision to downsize. Jon has had the foresight to use that money to go back to school at the Mott Community College in the Automotive Technology program, balancing a full 16 credit school load with supporting his family. Jon supports Barack because he believes that an Obama Administration would reward his quest for further education by bringing the jobs of the future to places like Michigan. He worries that four more years of the same economic policies may render his forward-thinking decision useless.

Barack shares Jon's belief that change is necessary. Barack took some time this morning in Flint to define what "change" means to him versus what it means to John McCain:
