Road Blog: Day in Pictures, Michigan

Barack Obama spent the day campaigning in Michigan, telling people about his plans to bring help to a faltering economy and listening to folks talk about the distress that has hit their everyday lives. Everyone is well aware of the economic challenges that are facing this country, but here in Michigan the pain has been felt longer and runs a little deeper.

And it's no wonder. As Barack pointed out today at his town hall in Farmington Hills, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney met with the leadership of the big three automakers exactly zero times during their tenure in the White House. This administration simply doesn't listen.

The 1500 Michiganders who crowded into the main gym of North Farmington High School (according to Fire Chief Marunicci) were ready to be heard. Question after question dealt with what people hope can be done to help them recapture the American dream.

Today's introducer, John Ashcroft (no relation), was a life-long Republican who recently lost his job in the auto industry. But after experiencing the results of the last eight years for his state and himself, John is ready for a change. He supports Barack Obama because he wants to know that someone is listening, that someone is prepared to act.
