GOTV Across the USA

The phones are blaring, door bells are ringing, and troops are being rallied. Supporters know that we have one last day to do all we can. And then we vote.

No matter where you live, you can make phone calls, knock on doors, talk to your family & friends, and take the day off so you can volunteer. We need to be at full speed as we head through the finish line.

We have received stories and pictures from all across the country about the frenzy of activity. Here are some stories of GOTV efforts and pictures, many of them taken at a Missouri campaign office where Senator Claire McCaskill came in to motivate the volunteers:

Allison C. from California:

I am sending a note from San Francisco, where I spent 5 hours yesterday making calls to Florida and Colorado. I have lived in California for 10 years, but I grew up in Colorado, and have been in awe of the grassroots mobilization there this month. My mother, a child psychologist who works in a diverse elementary school in Boulder, has been volunteering almost daily...alongside working long days at her school and meeting with parents and kids in her private practice. Fluent in Spanish, she trained this week to be a poll watcher on election day and committed to staying at her assigned polling location to support voters until the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday.

A long-distance runner, I know that every race comes down to the last 200-yards!

I'm one of those individuals volunteered for the first time for a presidential campaign as an Obama supporter.  It didn't really hit home how important and incredible it was until I was out in the field canvassing. I carpooled from Chicago down to Indy to canvass in Pike Township. As I'm sure the story gets repeated over and over again, the people who are involved in this campaign are amazing.  I sat in a car with individuals from such diverse backgrounds and careers.  The people we met were very supportive and excited but also concerned.  I think everyone understood the importance of early voting and the importance of seeing this through to Tuesday and not letting up. 

We couldn't have asked for a better day.  The weather was beautiful---sun shining, mid-70's temp.  Our staging location was filled with food and the best white chili I've ever had! As one example, I think (hope) that I encouraged one person to head to their early voting location as soon as we left.  It's small but it's something!

Monica L from Florida:

A cardboard cutout of Barack Obama and Groupies gathered at the West Kendall Public Library keeping voters company as they wait 4 long hours to vote today!  Free photos with Barack (above) were offered to all Obama voters as a reward for their long wait.   As the sun began to set, Barack was neatly packed into the trunk of his owner's car.

Today is the day, now is the time. We still have work to do through tomorrow. Get involved tonight and make a plan to vote at your polling place tomorrow.
